Lets Talk About Portable Camping Grills
I try to remember a few simple things when selecting camping gear, and one of them is to keep things simple and inexpensive. There are some nice portable barbaque grills out there and some of them can set you back a pretty penny. Me, I bought a "UNIFLAME Portable Gas Grill" at Walmart and it cost me about $25.00. I bought it 3 years ago...and it's working just fine. Here are a few things to keep in mind when dealing with portable tabletop grills.
Like I said earlier, my grill cost about $25.00. You can certainly pay more for some major brand but unless your a gourmet chef...why? I mean, I'm cooking steaks, hotdogs, sausage and cheesburgers.
The cooking surface is 259 square inches...thats about 6-8 burgers! It also has a warming rack, which can be helpful for slow cooking the hotdogs or warming the rolls.
This model has folding legs, that when extended have a cotter-pin to keep them from accidently folding under the unit. The grill has a hinged lid and electronic ignition.
One of the downsides to many outside gas grills is that the handles can get quite hot. My grill seems to do OK, but reviews of other portable grills always list that as a problem.
Taking care of your grill.
Just follow the same rules you do with your home gas grill.
• Preheat the grill
• Use a wire grill brush to keep it clean before and after cooking
• Oil up that grate before placing the meat on the rack.
